The background image is an original photograph taken on Hwy 1 heading to Ely following a winter storm. The sky is a mid vibrant light blue cyan color with a few wispy transparent clouds. From bottom right corner at approximately 45 degrees angle to center is a tarred road with yellow center lines and white side lines. Both roadsides have snow covered plow-banks. The right side being closer to the photographer seems higher and the shadow of the photographer is visible in the bank on the right just before it joins the road. The right side of the image from half way to top has large pine trees with snow and sparkling ice crystals formed on the needles and trunk but still show a lot of dark green and pops of brown on the trunks. The tree line on the left is set back further and shows a mix of tree types but is much more thickly covered with snow and ice crystals giving a much whiter and thicker appearance.
